Whether you're interested in how to get your child to start brushing their teeth or saving money down the road, this article is for you. Let's get started!
Children's Dental Health Q&A
When is the last time your child went to the dentist?
According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, more than 50 percent of children will be affected by tooth decay before age 5.
We, at Kneib Dentistry, recommend parents bring their child into the office for an examination as early as 18 months of age.
How do I prevent children's tooth decay?
Tooth decay can wreak havoc on a young child's teeth. Ensure your child is brushing and flossing every night.
If tooth decay has already started, it's important you schedule an appointment ASAP with your local dentist.
When my child doesn't brush their teeth, how much damage does it cause?
When your child brushes and flosses, they're removing bacteria from their mouth. If this bacteria continues to build up it can cause cavities or gum disease.
What's the big deal about cavities? Doesn't everyone get them?
Cavities aren't natural. They are from a lack of proper dental health care. Worse than that, imagine all the school time/work time you have to miss when your child gets a cavity. That can add up to a lot of money!
According to the American Dental Hygienists Association, every dollar spent on preventative dental care could save you up to $50 in restorative and emergency dental treatments and potentially more in additional types of medical treatment.
What if my child doesn't like brushing their teeth?
You need to make brushing your teeth fun! While we both know it only takes 2 minutes, this can seem like an eternity to a kid. Maybe next time your son/daughter isn't brushing their teeth, put a song on the radio and have them brush to the end.
Another thing to remember is kids follow their parents' lead. If you brush with them, it will make a world of difference!
